Individual PASR Members Sponsored Programs

Some programs that are sponsored by individual PASR members for Educational support are:

 1.  Dyslexia Program at the Masonic Learning Center

All required Dyslexia Program courses for the volunteer tutors are

at the  Volunteers expense.

It is necessary for volunteer tutors to undergo training  sessions,

learning seminars, research, examinations, and lesson preparations

before  working with the students.  Tutors meet  with each student

for a one-hour   session, twice a week.  The students are taught the

Orton-Gillingham program,  which is a structured phonetic

program. This program for the children is funded  by the Scottish

Rite Cathedral and is held at the Masonic Learning  Center.

Joyce Rohrbach is a member of Berks County Chapter of PASR

who was on the Dyslexia Programs Board of Govenors and

resigned this position to become a volunteer tutor for the children.

2.  Mentoring Program

Berks Chapter members of PASR, volunteer to become Mentors for

needy students in the Berks County area.  The volunteers each have a subject  area and they meet with the students that have problems with school subjects,  low esteem, social or home problems.  Students are tutored in their deficient  subject areas and receive the mentors encouragement to perform better.

Mentors are known to go above and beyond for a student.

This was evident when a students family could not afford the

expense for her Dental work.  The students Berks PASR mentor

paid the dental costs because  he believed the dental work was

necessary to raise the students confidence and self-esteem.  The

results were successful and the students beautiful smile was the mentors reward.

Mentors receive great satisfaction from helping these students
